Ellida Scarf - Free lace knitting pattern

This is my first attempt to write down a knitting pattern in (hopefully) clear instructions in english.
It is a scarf in a zigzag lace pattern that is easy to memorize. You can add a lace edging of your choice to make the scarf even more elegant (See sidebar for a link to free patterns for lace edgings).

Choose a soft fingering or lace weight yarn and relatively thick needles in order to get a light and drapey scarf (or stole). The gauge is not important and depends on your choice of yarn and needles. For the scarf depicted I used two skeins of thin alpaca wool (160m/50g) and 5.0 mm (US: nr. 8) needles.

Cast on 40 stitches on double needles to get an elastic cast-on (for a wider scarf or a stole: add an extra 10 sts for every additional strip of zigzag lace). Draw the extra needle out.

Knit 4 rows.

Proceed with the pattern chart. Work the 10 st repeat the additional times necessary for your scarf. Repeat the entire chart as many times as desired.

Then knit 4 rows and bind off loosely. Weave in ends, soak, and block. Enjoy your scarf!
