Dangly Grungy Mess Shawl

Crocheted with two skeins of Noro Silk Garden Sock, colourway 245, and with 5 and 4 mm hooks.
Pattern: 'Crescent Moon Shawl' by Mayumi Kawai from the Japanese book 'Easy Crochet, Complete in Three Days!'. Used the smaller hook for the fringe.

I love this yarn, I really dig the gorgeous snot/rust/mould colours and the rough texture and gloss of the silk blend. I’m instantly going to order some more! (My eye has already fallen on some lovely skeins in subtle puke & garlic tones.)

Hi I saw this shawl that you have crocheted on ravelry, and bought the book, it arrived to day! 4days from Jp to the Uk thats not bad! However, I looked at the pattern and almost died of shock! HELP! Where on earth do I start? Do you know a site that might explain these wonderful patterns? I so want to get started on this...
Rosie, ps love the mittens you have done!

You start by making a chain of 61 chain stitches. They will be the center of the inside of the crescent, you can see them in the diagram as a dark row of 0's. Then you chain 6 more st, make 1 treble, 1 chain and another treble in the last (61st) ch of the starting chain stitches. The pattern works back and forth, until you reach the outer edge.
The small black and white triangles show where to join and bind off the yarn for the last rows. Finally you make a row of single crochets around the whole shawl (with picots on the inside of the shawl) and add an edging. (Hope this will help, it's very difficult to explain in words...)Good luck!

Thank you so much, is it ok if I ask you again if I get stuck? I am sure I will be ok, can't wait to get started.

I was poking around the internet to see if there was a translation for the final rows and found you! I love the colors your working with. Almost done with mine. Now I also see why I couldn't use the name junglejane on google!
